You my friend have not only a gift to write lyrics, but you have a wonderful gift to communicate. It is difficult for people to understand writers, even though their words are read or heard, but often what they express in their music is their theological perspective and not a true revelation of their personal trials and triumphs. As for me, I have always been an enigma to people. I remain private and purposely aloof. Frankly, I don't care to make a grand appearing anywhere at anytime. Also, while nearly everyone in the industry, or ministry, of Gospel music knows of my work or has performed one or more of my tunes, I have chosen to limit my number of contacts, with the exception of those who contact me requesting song material. Mickey Mixon however is an exception, and he has proven to have a true burden for songwriters. I fully support his work and labor for our Lord. What a ministry to writers! For twenty years I have been writing Southern Gospel and dreamed of hearing someone besides my family and close friends sing my songs. I had no idea how to pitch them and only generated two cuts by a major group in all twenty years. Those two cuts were a huge thrill and I thought that would be as far as I could go. Then in 1998 I made one last ditch effort and maxed out a credit card to make a demo and travel to the NQC in Louisville. I passed out dozens of demos to groups and publishing companies and went home to wait by the phone. Two years went by and not one phone call. Then I received e-mail from a friend who recommended GSC to me. I found the web site extremely interesting and helpful. More than that, I found HOPE! To make a long story short, I have generated several cuts, won a songwriting contest (the Bahamas were beautiful!), and am now in the process of signing with the publishing company of my dreams! All because of a man who had a vision to be a servant for others and used his talents to form GSC.
