Phil Cross

Phil Cross was born in Ringgold, GA and raised in Chattanooga, TN. For Phil, life was great until the first grade! Phil was not prepared to be labeled the “UGLY KID” in school but that’s what happened. Each year worsened as Phil became more and more beaten-down by the cruelty of his classmates. But God had a big plan for this young boy and Phil plugged into God’s plan when he gave his life to Jesus Christ at the age of eleven. Since then, God has used the trials of his youth to bring a distinct depth and richness to his work. Phil credits the struggles of his youth for giving him the passion to become a minister of the Gospel through songwriting, singing and testimony.

God has miraculously lifted him, equipped him, and brought him to a place of prominence in music ministry. Certainly, Phil Cross is no stranger to Christian Music. He has long been known as one of today's finest composers and has received many of Gospel music's highest honors. Although he has gained recognition as a composer and a singer, and has had a great deal of success as a musician, Phil has remained genuine and sincere. His strongest desire is to let everyone know that God is on their side and He has an incredible plan for their lives.

Some of Phil’s chart-topping songs include “Champion Of Love”, “I Am Redeemed”, “Jesus Built A Bridge”, “Yes I Am”, “When I Get Carried Away”, “Saved To The Uttermost”, “Miracle In Me”, “Wedding Music”, “Glorious City Of God”, “Welcome To Heaven”, “Grace & Glory”.

Some of Phil’s awards include:

1987 Singing News Fan Award for Song of the Year “When I Get Carried Away” by Gold City Quartet

1987 GMA Dove Award for Song of the Year “Champion Of Love” by Cathedral Quartet (Mickey's favorite Phil Cross song)

1998 Singing News Fan Award for “Songwriter of the Year”

1998 Singing News Fan Award for Favorite Song, “I Am Redeemed” by Phil Cross & Poet Voices

1998 Singing News Fan Award for “Songwriter of the Year”

1998 SGMA Award for “Songwriter of the Year”

1999 Diamond Award for Song of the Year “I Am Redeemed” Phil Cross & Poet Voices

1999 Diamond Award for “Songwriter of the Year”

2002 SGMA Award for “Songwriter of the Year”

Mickey Mixon

ATTENTION:  As you may or may not know, Mickey was recently diagnosed with Silent Migraines. This sickness has impaired his vision and hearing to the point that he is currently unable to minister in public and thus will most likely not be able to attend. Mickey said, "While I am broken-hearted I will not be able to attend this year's convention, I have no doubt that Phil Cross is more than able to minister and provide you with a wealth of Gospel Songwriting knowledge and insight. I know you will have a good time fellowshipping, worshipping and learning together and I look forward to seeing you at our 2012 Gospel Songwriters Convention".

Mickey’s songs are published with some of the top publishers in the Gospel music industry including Daywind, Benson, and Chestnut Mound.

His songs have been recorded by such artists as The Kingsmen Quartet, The Perry’s, The Hinson’s, The Lewis Family, Danny Funderburk & Mercy's Way, and The Gospel Enforcers.

As an educator, Mickey has served as a columnist for The Trade Review Magazine, and The Gospel Post. He has conducted and taught in many seminars, has tutored countless songwriters, and has provided GospelSongwriter.Com since June 1999.

Mickey is the producer, moderator, and primary minister of the Gospel Songwriters Convention.

Note from Mickey

Greetings Dear Gospel Songwriter,

I am excited about and looking forward to our Gospel Songwriters Convention, and having you there with us.

Our convention evolved from our Gospel Songwriters Revival, and if you attended our revival or perused our revival report page then you have an idea of what a great time we are going to have at our convention.

In his letter to our revival attendees, one of our revival ministers, Greg Day said, “I really feel that God is going to move in a very special way during this meeting...I believe if you will attend this meeting God is going to not only bless you but also give you a renewed desire to write His songs and spread this Message of love, hope and peace to a lost and dying world.” Greg was right on target; that is exactly what happened, as you can see via our revival report. I expect the same for our convention.

Our convention will be a little different but will provide a lot of what our revival did. And, yes, we expect the Lord to attend our convention as He did our revival.

I eagerly anticipate experiencing the ministry of Phil Cross, and my staff and I are delighted to be teaming-up with him to serve you. Phil has been a blessing to many Gospel songwriters, has contributed much to the Gospel songwriter community, and now brings his years of ministry, experience and expertise to you via our convention. After reading his bio (above) it's obvious Phil is more than qualified to minister to us and we will enjoy and benefit from this award-winning, chart-topping Gospel songwriter.

So, will the convention be worth your trip to Nashville? That’s something you’ll have to decided but know this, the morning after I got home from our revival I received word that all the hotel guestrooms I had contracted for our convention were already reserved. Those who attended our revival reserved their guestroom before they departed the hotel.

Maxwell House Hotel approved additional guestrooms and those were reserved before I signed the contract addendum.

I haven’t requested a second contract addendum but Maxwell House indicated it will provide a few more guestrooms and honor our group discount rate so I encourage you to reserve your guestroom as soon as you can.

Personally, I think our convention will be worth your trip to Nashville, and I’m not just being biased. I was there for our revival and I know what God did for us, and how we were blessed. But if you’re not sure then go peruse our revival report page, read the testimonies, look at the video and photos, and then decide.

If you want your “batteries charged” and would like to spend the weekend with some wonderful Gospel songwriters, people who care about you and have a kindred spirit, then go ahead and register for our convention and reserve your guestroom, you’ll be glad you did.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about our convention or if you need any assistance reserving your guestroom at Maxwell House Hotel or Springhill Suites.

Thanks for coming, we’re going to have a good time in the Lord. Don't forget to mark your calendar. I’ll see you there.

Blessings,
Mickey
